BAYC Major Milestones
Surpassing 4k owners this week, Bored Ape Yacht Club apes now belong to over 4,100 unique addresses. Volume traded surpassed 10k and is now at a total of over 11.6k at the time of this writing.
EmperorTomatoKetchup revealed in the BAYC Discord Announcements that the smart contract was updated “to point directly at IPFS for ape images and metadata […] which will serve as a decentralized forever home for all this data.” This will ensure that no changes can be made to the smart contract ever again, making it entirely decentralized.
Today is the last day for submitting a proposal for the Community Grant Program. If you have an idea that will benefit the Bored Ape Community, you may be granted up to $3000 if approved. Proposals are to be sent via email at boredapeyachtclub@gmail.com
Gordon Goner provided an updated time on the upcoming surprise: “Small update. We apologize for all the delays on the surprise. We'll be releasing it this Friday at 6 PM EST.”
Gargamel teased Discord with an update on the upcoming mutant breeding: “Mutants are going to be dope. You’ll only need 1 ape. We’re all working 14 hours a day on mutants and the other roadmap stuff so that it will be as dope as possible. I can’t say more rn.”
Gary Vee’s Uplifting Visit
On Monday, an inspirational Gary Vee paid a visit to the BAYC Discord to share an important message: “Keep pushing.. community is everything.. keep being kind with each other and remember you don’t need to compete with any other project.. Focus on your banana.”

Electronic duo, @Bassjackers, flipped their artist PFP on twitter to their recently acquired Bored Apes!
NBA Apes
Philadelphia 76ers Operations President, Daryl Morey (@dmorey) joined the BAYC and updated his PFP accordingly. Two more NBA players, Tyrese Haliburton and Josh Hart secured their own apes, following Lamelo Ball’s acquirement last week. Haliburton’s ape sports 3D glasses and Josh Hart’s zombie ape fittingly rocks heart glasses.
Boring Coffee
Member @NeonApesYC has set out to launch Boring Coffee Co. so that apes will have a dedicated coffee plug to keep them awake in times of heavy boredom.
Auction Day Merch Surprise
Sillytuna received a pleasant surprise following his wildly successful alien cryptopunk sale at the Sotheby’s auction. Holding a BAYC t-shirt, @sillytuna posted “On the same day as the alien sale, look what came through the post #BAYC”
Scams, Scams, and More Scams
It is now, more than ever, important for the community to be hypervigilant in the wake of a series of recent scams.
BAYC founder, Gargamel issued a warning for apes regarding the ongoing scams “targeting ape holders as well as new club members.” The warning stresses the importance of buyers verifying they are purchasing from the official BAYC collection on OpenSea.
Due to USDC offers that scammers craftily disguised as WETH bids, Opensea updated the price listing UI. This was primarily in response to several scams that tricked ape-holders into accepting offers that they believed were in WETH. To their dismay, the victims sold their apes for only a few dollars.
On Friday, NFT artist, FVCKRENDER, was targeted by scammers who managed to steal significant holdings. The thieves convinced him to accept and open a .SCR file that contained a malicious virus which gained access to his private keys.
Many members reacted to the attack by ordering hardware wallets. Manifold.xyz cofounder, @richerd released PSAs on twitter warning that hardware wallets are not enough to defend against attacks. He noted that FVCKRENDER had been using a hardware wallet at the time of the breach.

Richerd’s @manifoldxyz subsequently provided a “post mortem” account of the scam which includes must-read information and advice regarding safest wallet-security practices.

Member @holderofbags put some real skin in the game and got just about the greatest tattoo an ape can get, the official BAYC logo. Be on the lookout for more apes who will surely follow his lead.
This last week was no doubt exciting, but with the current roadmap in the works and unofficial ape projects brewing, it is clear the best has yet to come.
